“Coming to MAPA felt like coming home to me. The mime trainings, the focus on the body in itself, in space and in connection to others, improvising, watching and listening to beautiful things unfolding in the studio, real attention, open minds and a lot of fun, for me it is all there and very inspiring.”

Charlotte has chosen MAPA as the basis and inspiration for her Master’s study at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. During this Master has explored ways to integrate Virág Dezsö’s Musicality of Movement approach into classical singing education.

Besides my research in the Master, which will enhance my teaching work, I want to enrich and renew my own performance practice within Studio MAPA Netherlands.
I hope, among other things, to stretch the boundaries of the traditional recital and find a more theatrical form and to work on my improvisational skills through Musicality of Movement.”

Carla Dekker
music performer, violin & viola

MAPA Studio Member: since October 2024

• Mime orientation course at the AHK in Amsterdam

• In 2016 started as a theater actor

Starting as a theatre actor, Carla went on to explore mime, physical theatre, clowning, and mask work. She continued her development at MAPA, learning from renowned teachers like Ide van Heiningen, Sjoerd Schwibettus, and Claire Heggen. She became a MAPA studio member in October 2024.

“As a Studio Member, my goal is to dive deeper into mime through focused training and education. I aim to develop a performance piece rooted in improvisation—ideally created and performed with a group. I’m drawn to using music, objects, and masks, and exploring absurdity and humor as expressive tools. The highly skilled and experienced teachers at MAPA are a joy and a privilege to work with. Scenography and lighting also play an important role in my work, and I’m eager to expand my knowledge in that area through workshops with Ide van Heiningen and Jeroen Kriek.”
